In October 2018 a meeting between DIW Econ as the IREEMA project “Supporting Iran in implementation of an integrated energy efficiency market” coordinator and representatives of the Vice presidency of Science and Technology of the IR Iran took place. In this meeting Dr. Zeinab Hamidzadeh was introduced as the project national director.
“With the precise execution of the agreement between BMU and VPST and participation of the stakeholders, the Energy Efficiency Market will be successfully formed, the challenges of the Article 12 of Law on “elimination of barriers of the competitive production and improvement of the financial system of the country” will be solved and the Energy Service companies and knowledge-based organizations will become more active”. Zeinab Hamidzadeh, the national director of the project said. “The next important measure is formation of working groups with the presence of all the stakeholders.” She added.
Dr. Petra Opitz, DIW ECON manager said this project has three different work packages: “first is supporting Iran in elaboration and implementation of the energy efficiency market, second is the Assaluyeh pilot project (compatible with article 12) and the third is energy efficiency studies in rural areas”.
The bylaws for “creating energy efficiency market” have been approved by the supreme energy council in 2018 and the agreement between BMU and Vice Presidency was signed in regard with low carbon economy in the meantime. Therefore, the project “supporting Iran in implementing an integrated market for energy efficiency (IREEMA)” was approved. Many meetings with BMU have been done to choose the German company. Finally, the Consulting Company of the German Institute of Economic Research (DIW-Econ) was selected to lead and execute the IREEMA project. To ensure the effective execution of the project, Tehran project office was established in the Vice Presidency of Science and Technology with support from the national project director. Ms. Ayda Shahrokh was assigned as the head of the project office in Tehran.
